Uninstall Modern app called "Paint 3D" and get classic app called "Paint"


Step 1: Download the setup program from Winaero




Go to the on Winaero and scroll down to the bottom of the article. You will see a link that says "Download 'Old Classic Paint for Windows 10'". Click on it and save the file to your computer. The file name is OldClassicPaintSetup.exe and it is about 6 MB in size.


Step 2: Run the installer and follow the instructions




Double-click on the OldClassicPaintSetup.exe file that you downloaded and allow it to run. You might see a User Account Control prompt asking you to confirm that you want to run the program. Click Yes to continue. You will see a welcome screen with some information about the program. Click Next to proceed. You will see a destination folder screen where you can choose where to install the program. The default location is C:\Program Files\Old Classic Paint\. You can change it if you want, but we recommend leaving it as it is. Click Next to continue. You will see a ready to install screen where you can review your choices. Click Install to start the installation process. Wait for a few seconds until the installation is complete. You will see a finish screen where you can choose to launch the program or not. Click Finish to exit the installer.


Step 3: Disable the modern Paint app aliases in Settings




By default, Windows 10 will still open the modern Paint 3D app when you type "paint" in the search box or press Win + R and type "mspaint". To prevent this, you need to disable the aliases that point to the modern Paint app in Settings. Here are the steps to do this:


  • Open Settings by clicking on the Start menu and then clicking on the gear icon.



  • Click on Apps and then click on App execution aliases on the left sidebar.



  • Scroll down until you see Microsoft.Paint_3D and Microsoft.MSPaint under App execution aliases.



  • Turn off both switches next to them.



  • Close Settings.



Step 4: Enjoy the old classic Paint app in Windows 10




Congratulations, you have successfully installed Classic Paint for Windows 10 using the third-party setup program. You can now launch it by typing "paint" in the search box or pressing Win + R and typing "mspaint".
